The graph establishes a comparison
of the accident rate in the corridors used by the transportation
system before and the implementation of the TransMilenio
operation. Statistics show a reduction of up to 90%.
Moreover, holdup rates have decreased by 83% due to
an increased presence of police agents, in addition
to a favorable atmosphere in a clean, well-lit and pleasant
environment where good behavior and order are encouraged.

Respect for the User´s Time |
Commercial public transportation speeds at Calle
80 and Avenida Caracas were between 7.45 and 1.24 miles/hour
respectively, before the implementation af the TransMilenio
System. These rates have increased to an average 16.76
mile/hour speed, while the traveling times for users
have reduced by 32%. |
Respect for Human Diversity |
The trunk-route system is wholly accesible for all
citizens, including people with physical disabilities,
elders, children and pregnant women. It has been estimated
the 1% of the System users (9,500 people/day) have some
kind of disability or limitation. |
Quality and Consistency |
Acceptance levels with regard to the System are
very high, in response to the high infrastructure and
service-operation standars demanded for its implementation.
This has been confirmed through surveys regularly carried
out to measure user satisfaction levels. |
Affordability |
The fare charged by the TransMilenio System amounts
to only US$0.52, serving to secure the investment, operation
and manteinance cost of trunk-route and feeder operators
and collection concesionaires or licensees, as well
as those relating to fiduciary management of resources,
Systems supervision and station manteinance. It exceeds
by only 6% the average fare traditionally charged by
national transportation services, which are usually
offered in poor quality conditions in buses averaging
14 years of age. |
